View grooming kitsThe FurHQ Method is five steps — Audit, Prep, Wash, Dry, Finish — the grooming protocol your course teaches.
The complete FurHQ Method for feathered long double coats — the flowing, elegant coats that pair a manageable body coat with long feathering on the ears, legs, chest, and tail. It's a coat of two jobs: a shedding double coat to clear on the body, and long, fragile feathering to keep tangle-free without breaking it. This Protocol teaches you to handle both in one routine, with your demo dog Mondo Fluffarino showing you every step.
What You'll Learn
- Work the body and the feathering — clear the shedding body coat and protect the long feathering, each the right way
- Line-brush the feathering — the core technique for long coat, parting and brushing section by section so it never mats
- Never brush the feathering dry — why misting first protects the long, fine hair from breakage
- Deshed and card the body — clear loose undercoat with the Deshedding Comb, and card on a dry coat up to once every two weeks or between baths
- Lift loose coat at the skin — the Coat Release Method for freeing dead undercoat during the wash
The FurHQ Method for This Coat
- Audit — a quick head-to-paw health check, feeling for tangles where the feathering meets the body
- Prep — deshed and card the body on a dry coat; mist the feathering with Pawfect Finish Coat Spray and line-brush it out — never dry
- Wash — clean with Deep Clean Delight Shampoo, repeating for adult dogs, and use the Coat Release Method with the Firm Rubber Curry to lift loose undercoat at the skin
- Dry — take the coat to 80% dry, then bring the Long-Pinned Slicker in for the final 20%, brushing the body out and line-brushing the feathering straight
- Finish — a final line-brush and comb-through confirms the body is clear and the feathering is tangle-free top to bottom
Never brush the long feathering dry — always mist with Pawfect Finish Coat Spray first to protect it from static and breakage.
Who It's For
Feathered long double coats have a moderate body coat with long feathering on the ears, legs, chest, and tail. Some examples are the Golden Retriever, Australian Shepherd, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Border Collie, English Springer Spaniel, and Shetland Sheepdog. Breed is a starting point, not a rule — groom the coat in front of you, and use the FurHQ Coat Identifier if you're not sure.
How the Protocol Works
Your Protocol lives on FurHQ as five video Missions you can follow at your own pace, on any device — each Mission is a single video covering that stage of the groom. Demo dog Mondo Fluffarino walks you through every step, so you're never guessing what comes next. Watch them through once, then keep them open beside you on groom day.
