FurHQ Stripping Knife

Made for these coats: Wire Coats
Hand-stripping is how a wire coat keeps its harsh texture and rich colour. Instead of cutting, you pull out the dead outer coat so fresh, wiry hair can grow in its place — clipping does the opposite and leaves the coat soft over time. A stripping knife gives you grip on that dead hair, and the rounded handle sits comfortably in your palm through a long session. Choose the grade to suit the area you are working.
Key Benefits
- Keeps the wire texture — removes dead coat so harsh new coat grows in, instead of softening it with clippers
- Comfortable rounded handle — easy on your hand through a full session
- Four grades — Coarse and Medium for the body, Fine and X-Fine for the head, ears and detail
- Stainless steel blade — durable and easy to wipe clean
Hand-stripping takes practice. Work small sections, and stop if your dog shows discomfort.
- Start on a dry, brushed-out coat.
- Pinch a small amount of hair between your thumb and the blade.
- Pull it out in the direction of hair growth with a short, steady motion — keep your wrist straight and never twist or saw with the blade.
- Use the coarser grades on the body and switch to finer grades around the head and ears.
- Wipe the blade clean as you go.
